Default forum/bulletin board software
I'm searching for the best forum software for our website. Can anyone recommend one over another. phpBB seems like a good candidate, but I've noticed that a few webmaster forums, including this one, use vBulletin.

vBulletin is the best choice. If you are having low budget then go for PHPBB

VB is good but expensive
phpbb3.x is pretty damn good and it's free
phpbb2.x is ok and free

rest i'm really not sure about...
a friend uses mybb that i am staff on and it seems to be ok as well

some people swear by SMF or whatever....

SMF is good but it's very complex for users. PunBB is good too, very simple and light
